Surviving Pyro: Solar Flares, Lawlessness & Staying Alive

Pyro isn't Stanton. There are no police, no safe zones, and the star itself wants to kill you. Here's how to survive.

Pyro isn't Stanton. There are no police, no safe zones, and the star itself wants to kill you. Here's how to survive.

Pyro Is Trying to Kill You

If Stanton is a regulated corporate playground, Pyro is the lawless frontier. The system’s unstable star produces periodic solar flares, there’s no Comm-Array network to report crimes, and every station is controlled by one faction or another — none of them friendly.

This guide covers the survival essentials every CDYN operator needs before setting foot in Pyro.

Solar Flares

Pyro’s star is classified as a flare star, meaning it emits powerful bursts of radiation at semi-random intervals.

What Happens During a Flare

  • Warning phase: You’ll see visual and HUD indicators that a flare is incoming. You have roughly 30-60 seconds to react.
  • Exposure phase: Unprotected ships and players take radiation damage over time. Shields mitigate some damage but won’t fully protect you.
  • Recovery phase: The flare subsides. Check your components — power systems are particularly vulnerable.

How to Survive

  1. Get behind cover. Planetary bodies block solar radiation. If you’re near a planet or moon, put it between you and the star.
  2. Station shields. Some stations have protective shield arrays that block flare radiation. Get inside their coverage.
  3. Interior shelter. If you’re EVA or on foot, get inside a ship or structure immediately.
  4. Swap fuses. The engineering gameplay lets you manually replace blown fuses after a surge. Carry spares.

The Lawless Meta

No Comm-Arrays means no automatic crime reporting. This changes everything:

  • No crimestat for most actions. Pirates operate freely. Friendly fire incidents won’t flag you.
  • Bounty hunting is manual. Bounty hunters must physically track targets using informant NPCs or visual identification.
  • Trust is earned. Without system-level identification, you can’t always tell friend from foe at range.

Staying Safe

  • Travel in groups. Solo players are the easiest targets. Even a wingman doubles your survival odds.
  • Use encrypted comms. Coordinate on Discord voice channels rather than in-game proximity chat.
  • Avoid predictable routes. Pirates camp known transit paths. Vary your approach vectors.
  • Set a local spawn. Bed log in Pyro or set a station spawn. Dying without one sends you back to Stanton.

Essential Loadout for Pyro

ItemWhy
Medical pens (x5+)No reliable medical facilities. Self-heal or die.
Spare fusesSolar flare damage to power systems.
Full fuelRefueling stations are scarce and often hostile.
Combat armorYou will get shot at. Dress accordingly.
Multi-tool with tractor beamFor emergency salvage and cargo operations.

CDYN Operating Procedures in Pyro

All CDYN members operating in Pyro should follow these protocols:

  1. Check in on Discord before jumping to Pyro. Let your division know your plan.
  2. Never jump alone unless you’re in a fast, combat-capable ship.
  3. Report hostile contacts with location and ship type.
  4. Coordinate logistics runs through the Logistics division for security escort.

Pyro rewards the prepared and punishes the careless. Fly smart, operators.
